2021 AHWIN Researchers Virtual Roundtable

December 13, 2021
Online

JCIE and ERIA convened a meeting of about three dozen researchers from a number of projects that have been funded through ERIA under the auspices of AHWIN. This meeting gave researchers the opportunity to share information about their work with one another, compare notes, and discuss the implications of their findings to date.

In addition to presentations from the research network, this year’s roundtable featured a special panel on “Digitalization and the Health and Wellbeing of Older People in Asia,” in keeping with this year’s UN International Day of Older Person’s theme of “Digital Equity for all Ages.” The panel discussed  how digital and other technologies are being applied to promote the health and wellbeing of older persons, how different sectors are contributing to the development of such technologies, the challenges faced in the development and adoption of these innovations, and how the pandemic has impacted that trend. It featured presentations from representatives of Tetsuyu Healthcare and SmartPeep, two technology companies who were recognized by our Healthy Aging Prize for Asian Innovation for their use of AI to address the needs of older people, as well as from a representative of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).

This meeting was the 3rd in a series of annual meetings that have taken place as part of our activities to promote dialogue on healthy aging in the region. See below for information on past meetings:
